In Federal Register notice, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development outlined a number of actions it has taken against FHA mortgagees. HUD settled with 17 mortgagees for varying amount. In addition to the penalties, some of the firms were required to indemnify HUD on FHA-insured loans. Another 11 firms lost approval to make loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration. In addition, 125 mortgagees saw their FHA approval suspended for one year.
